David Livshin began his career as a photojournalist at the age of sixteen.

While still a student, he was hired in 1972 as a freelance photographer by the Poughkeepsie Journal. The next year he became a full time staff photographer covering sports and breaking news. Later that year while a freshman at Syracuse University he won an award in the New York State Associated Press Association photo competition. Livshin was first published nationally in the October 7, 1974 issue of People Magazine.

His career transitioned in the late 1970’s to commercial real estate.  Since 1988 Livshin has been the President/CEO of his own successful leasing and management company, allowing him the flexibility for dual careers. Looking back now, friends say he was like the kid in the film "Almost Famous", except with a camera.

Over the last forty-six years, Livshin has photographed such notables as Joe Namath, Floyd Patterson, Jane Fonda, Mario Andretti, Paul Newman, Jimmy Carter, Mickey Mantle, Ted Kennedy, John F. Kennedy Jr, Gregory Peck, Gerald Ford, Ashley Judd, General Omar Bradley, Patrick Dempsey, Andrew Cuomo, Don McLean, Rudy Giuliani, Janet Leigh, Arnold Palmer, and Helio Castroneves as well as ordinary people in extraordinary settings.  Additionally, his images have figured prominently in many advertising and political campaigns.

The September 2008 issue of Vanity Fair featured one of Livshin's previously unpublished photographs of Paul Newman. One of his photographs of race driver Dario Franchitti was selected for an exhibit at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh. It is one of the 18 works acquired for the national collection named Hot Scots, which opened in November 2011. In Spring 2013, his photo of best selling author Edward Rutherfurd appeared on his new book, PARIS and was reprinted worldwide. In March 2017 his licensed photographic images dominated the CNBC American Greed episode, "Life in the Fraud Lane". His photograph of legendary racing car driver, Hurley Haywood was selected as the cover image of the 2018 book, HURLEY: From The Beginning.

His knack for being in the right place at the right time has allowed him to capture candid images, which are unique and document significant moments in time.  His photographs appear in international, national and regional newspapers and magazines. Livshin continues to accept assignments from his home base of Fairfield County, Connecticut.

His contemporary work as well as his strong iconic images from the past resonate visually.
